Democrats have won control of both chambers of the US Congress after Tuesday’s midterm elections. The Associated Press called the Senate after Josh Turek won in Iowa, bringing Democrats and allied independents to 51 seats. The House was called soon after, with Hakeem Jeffries in line to become Speaker.

Cointelegraph’s tally later showed Democrats at 54 Senate seats to 43 for Republicans. In the House, Democrats had 225 seats to 136 for Republicans. Counting was still under way in some races.
Crypto spending falls short in Ohio
Sherrod Brown won in Ohio, beating Republican Senator Jon Husted. The race drew about $63 million in crypto industry spending. Around $56 million came from Fairshake and $7 million from the Winklevoss-backed Digital Freedom Fund.
The election is over. The market called it hours ago.
Objectively, it's an undisputed Democrat "sweep" all the way across the board.
The Republicans have lost control of both the House and Senate.
Meanwhile, Texas' US Senate and Governor races are set to flip blue for the…

Stand With Crypto describes Brown as strongly opposed to crypto. It cites 17 statements and his 2024 vote against overturning an SEC custody accounting rule. In 2024, a Fairshake affiliate spent more than $40 million to support Bernie Moreno, who beat Brown that year.
In Nebraska, Fairshake had spent nearly $11 million to support Republican Pete Ricketts. A Fairshake-affiliated group also spent about $13.5 million against independent Dan Osborn. Ricketts held a narrow lead past the halfway mark of the count.
Other Senate results
In Texas, Democrat James Talarico beat Republican Ken Paxton. Talarico became the first Democrat to win a statewide race in Texas since 1994. Both candidates held A ratings from Stand With Crypto.
Democrat Roy Cooper won in North Carolina. Democrat Annie Andrews won in South Carolina, where she defeated Republican Darline Graham. Andrews’ win ended more than two decades of Republican control of that seat.
In Maine, Democrat Troy Jackson defeated Susan Collins. Collins was one of four Republicans who opposed advancing the CLARITY Act in September, citing bank deposit concerns. Stand With Crypto rates Jackson as “very pro crypto.”
Some pro-crypto Republicans held on. Andy Barr won in Kentucky, and Fairshake-linked groups had spent more than $7 million to support him in the primary. Harriet Hageman won in Wyoming and will succeed Senator Cynthia Lummis.
What changes in committees
Democrats who took part in talks on the CLARITY Act wanted tighter rules on illicit finance. They also wanted limits on officials taking part in the industry and more consumer protections. Those positions may now carry more weight.
Senator Elizabeth Warren is likely to lead the Senate Banking Committee. In the House, Maxine Waters could return to lead the Financial Services Committee, though she faces a challenge for the role. Current chairman French Hill held a narrow lead in Arkansas late in the count.
Representative Bryan Steil, who led the House crypto subcommittee, trailed by about 4% in Wisconsin. Industry insiders told CoinDesk they hope for progress on a crypto tax bill. They have lower hopes for another market structure bill.
Control of the House also brings subpoena power. NBC reported that this includes oversight of Trump’s family and business ventures. President Donald Trump congratulated Democrats on the Senate win.
Jerome de Tychey of Ethereum France told Cointelegraph that nothing will pass without cross-party support. Maylea Ma, deputy general counsel at 1inch, said real movement may come from the SEC, CFTC and Treasury instead of Congress.
Before the Senate call, Kalshi and Polymarket traders gave Democrats a 99% chance of Senate control. House control was priced at nearly 100%. The Blockchain Association tracked 62 priority congressional races, including 18 Senate and 44 House contests.
