CME Group Sets September 11 for 24/7 Silver Trading
CME Group plans to make its 100-Ounce Silver futures contract available for trading throughout the week from September 11. The contract launched in February 2026 and averaged 17,800 contracts in daily trading during the first half of the year.
The 100-Ounce Silver futures contract is financially settled using the daily settlement price of the COMEX 5,000-Ounce Silver futures contract. The product is listed by COMEX and remains subject to its rules.

Jin Hennig, CME Group’s managing director and global head of metals, said, “Our retail clients have shown a strong appetite for right-sized gold futures available whenever they need them.” She added that the company was extending the access to silver to help market participants manage risk.
The company said both the 1-Ounce Gold and 100-Ounce Silver futures contracts were designed with smaller notional exposure for retail participants.
Silver Futures Trading Activity Reaches Record Levels
CME Group reported that its silver futures recorded an average of $50 billion in daily notional trading during the first half of 2026. The company’s metals business also averaged 1.3 million contracts traded each day during the period.
Metals trading increased 55% year over year during the first half, with precious metals activity contributing to the growth. CME Group has expanded its smaller-sized contracts as it seeks to provide more access to participants with lower exposure requirements.
The 24/7 silver rollout follows the early trading activity seen in the smaller gold futures contract. More than 53,000 1-Ounce Gold futures contracts changed hands during weekend sessions between July 24 and August 11.
Hennig said, “Silver bridges the precious and industrial metals worlds,” while noting that the metal responds to both broader economic developments and physical demand.
CME Stock Trades Lower as Silver Expansion Nears
CME Group shares were trading around $260.72, down roughly 1.11% during the session. The stock decline came as the company announced the planned silver trading expansion.
The new trading schedule will allow eligible market participants to access 100-Ounce Silver futures beyond the current trading timetable, subject to regulatory approval. CME Group has not provided a different launch date if the review takes longer than expected.
The company operates futures and options markets across several asset classes, including metals, energy, agricultural products, interest rates, currencies, equity indexes and digital assets. Its metals division remains a major part of its derivatives business.
The September 11 launch would give traders another smaller-sized precious metals contract with extended access. For now, the expansion remains subject to regulatory review before 24/7 trading begins.
