TLDR
- DogeOS launched a public testnet Wednesday, bringing Ethereum-style smart contracts to Dogecoin for the first time.
- The network supports trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and games, using test DOGE for fees.
- DOGE trades near $0.0955, down about 60% over the past year.
- A proposed Dogecoin Core upgrade, OP_CHECKZKP, would let Dogecoin miners verify DogeOS proofs directly, but it remains a draft.
- Analyst Trader Tardigrade points to a bull pennant pattern on DOGE with a $0.124 target.
Dogecoin’s price sits around $0.0955 as a new project tries to give the coin more uses than payments and price bets. DogeOS, an application layer built on top of Dogecoin, opened a public testnet on Wednesday.

The testnet lets developers build software that runs trading platforms, lending markets, stablecoins, prediction markets and games. It uses test DOGE to pay transaction fees. The system is compatible with Ethereum, so developers can use familiar tools to build on it.
DOGE has a market value of about $13 billion. Most of that supply sits in wallets without being used for anything beyond holding or trading.
How DogeOS Works
DogeOS runs as a separate network and settles its activity back to Dogecoin. It uses mathematical proofs to show its work was done correctly, without needing every transaction redone.

Right now, the system depends on selected operators. A permissioned sequencer orders transactions, while validators and a trusted hardware environment check the proofs. A group called the Security Council oversees the setup.
Dogecoin’s own miners do not check these proofs yet. DogeOS has proposed a Dogecoin Core upgrade, called OP_CHECKZKP, that would let miners verify the proofs directly. The proposal was published in July 2025, and a draft implementation was submitted in December. It has not been activated.
DogeOS was founded by the team behind MyDoge, a Dogecoin wallet. The company raised $6.9 million in May 2025, led by Polychain Capital.
CEO Jordan Jefferson said the project is meant to give Dogecoin a reason to exist beyond its ties to Elon Musk.
“We’re focused on the public testnet, giving developers time to build and test applications while we validate the network,” he said. No mainnet date has been announced.
Timothy Stebbing, a Dogecoin Foundation director, backed the launch. “My hopes are that DogeOS becomes the springboard for a wave of new utility engineering, the gateway for the next 100 startups to build on Dogecoin,” he said.
Past Attempts and Market Reaction
Earlier projects tried similar ideas. Dogechain launched in 2022 and drew $4.6 million in deposits within days, but now holds less than $300 in its applications, according to DeFiLlama. Shibarium, launched by Shiba Inu’s team in 2023, has seen its tracked applications fall to about $140,000 from a peak near $6.4 million.
DogeOS differs in that the Dogecoin Foundation has publicly endorsed it, unlike Dogechain. It also aims to tie its security to Dogecoin’s miners through the pending Core upgrade.
On the trading side, analyst Trader Tardigrade posted on X that Dogecoin is “breaking out of a Bull Pennant” on the 12-hour chart, setting a target of $0.124. The post came as DOGE traded near $0.094 to $0.0955, down 60% over the past year.

DOGE’s three U.S. ETFs have collected about $12 million in net inflows over nearly 10 months combined. Bitwise’s dogecoin ETF held under $700,000 in assets before the firm announced its closure.
