The number of shares and the price range have not been set. The registration statement is not yet effective.
Anthropic named Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as contacts for the preliminary prospectus. The offering will be made only through a prospectus.
The filing has renewed attention on the stake once held by FTX. Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX group invested $500 million in Anthropic. The bankruptcy estate later received about $1.3 billion from selling it.
What the Old Stake Could Be Worth
The Wall Street Journal has reported a possible IPO valuation of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion. FTX’s former stake was 7.84% when the court approved the sale in 2024.
At $1.5 trillion, that percentage equals $117.6 billion. At $2 trillion, it equals $156.8 billion.
These numbers are hypothetical. They hold the stake constant and do not account for later fundraising. They are not a confirmed value of the shares the estate sold.
Anthropic raised $30 billion in February 2026 at a $380 billion valuation. In May, it raised $65 billion at a $965 billion valuation.
Jane Street and Fidelity Management & Research Company joined the May round. Both had also bought FTX’s shares in 2024.
How the Estate Sold Its Shares
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge John Dorsey approved the sale in February 2024. Customers first objected, saying the investment was funded with misused customer money.
They later agreed the sale could go ahead. They kept the right to argue over who owns the proceeds.
By March 2024, the estate had arranged to sell about two-thirds of the holding for $884 million. An Abu Dhabi investor linked to Mubadala was the largest buyer, with nearly $500 million.
The remaining 15 million shares sold for about $30 each, bringing in more than $450 million. G Squared bought 4.5 million shares for $135 million.
Across both sales, the estate received about $800 million more than its original investment.
Creditor Payments and Seized Shares
FTX’s bankruptcy plan bases customer recoveries on dollar claims from November 2022. Some customers objected because the formula left out later crypto price gains.
Former Alameda Research chief Caroline Ellison and former FTX engineer Nishad Singh also invested $50 million in Anthropic in 2022. Their shares passed to the U.S. government in 2025.
The government has now sold 4.45 million of those seized shares for $627 million to repay FTX creditors. Based on the pre-IPO valuation, the shares are now worth about $3.94 billion, according to reports.
