JetForward Strategy Expands Revenue and Profitability Targets
JetBlue generated $2.7 billion in second-quarter operating revenue during the reporting period. The airline increased revenue per available seat mile by 10.9% from the previous year. Strong demand across premium products, loyalty programs, and leisure markets supported the quarterly improvement.
The company stated that JetForward produced $470 million in cumulative incremental EBIT through June 2026. Management maintained its target of delivering between $850 million and $950 million in annual incremental EBIT by the end of 2027. The airline also projected approximately $1.2 billion in annual incremental EBIT during 2028.
JetBlue introduced a long-term financial objective of at least $1.00 in earnings per share for 2028. The target assumes continued travel demand and an average jet fuel price of $3.00 per gallon. Management linked the outlook to continued execution of JetForward initiatives and operating improvements.
Commercial Performance Supports Second Quarter Growth
JetBlue expanded system capacity by 3.2% compared with the previous year. At the same time, premium revenue per available seat mile increased about 13%. Main Cabin revenue per available seat mile also climbed 11%, reflecting broad demand across the network.
The airline increased loyalty revenue by 13% from the prior-year quarter. Higher co-branded card engagement, premium card acquisitions, and loyalty cash remuneration supported the improvement. JetBlue also launched ClarityPay to provide customers with additional payment flexibility.
Operational improvements also continued throughout the quarter. The company improved on-time performance, increased customer satisfaction scores, and strengthened connectivity through updated flight schedules. JetBlue also expanded reciprocal loyalty benefits under the Blue Sky initiative while preparing BlueFirst domestic first-class sales for later this year.
Costs, Outlook, and Operational Efficiency
JetBlue recovered nearly half of its higher fuel costs during the second quarter. Average fuel prices reached $4.23 per gallon, increasing approximately 76% from the previous year. Even so, the company limited CASM excluding fuel growth to 2.4%, outperforming internal expectations.
The airline continued investing in technology and operational efficiency during the quarter. Digital tools improved workforce productivity, while advanced flight planning enhanced fuel efficiency. Artificial intelligence and data science also supported planning, disruption management, and operational decision-making across the network.
For the third quarter, JetBlue expects available seat miles to increase between 3.0% and 6.0%. The company projects revenue per available seat mile growth of 12.5% to 16.5%. Full-year guidance includes revenue per available seat mile growth of 10.0% to 12.5%, fuel prices averaging $3.49 per gallon, capital expenditures of about $850 million, and second-half operating margin improvement of roughly 3.5 percentage points from the previous year.
JetBlue also secured credits from Pratt & Whitney covering future goods and services related to geared turbofan settlements through calendar year 2025. The agreement supports ongoing fleet operations while reducing future costs tied to the engine issue. The airline stated that continued commercial execution and transformation initiatives remain central to its long-term profitability strategy.
