Metaplanet’s board approved the creation of Metaplanet Asset Management Asia Limited on September 11, a wholly owned Hong Kong subsidiary with $1 million in planned initial capital. The company expects to formally incorporate the entity in Hong Kong before the end of September 2026.
The new unit will trade Bitcoin, listed equities, preferred securities, credit products and other liquid instruments during Asian market hours. It will also cover Bitcoin-related perpetual preferred securities, derivatives and structured-product income strategies.
Simon Gerovich, Darren Winia and Kelvin Lee will serve as the initial directors. Their core job is to handle trade execution, position monitoring and risk controls while U.S. markets are closed.
Metaplanet already runs an institutional investment hub out of Miami, Metaplanet Asset Management, which launched in March 2026. The Hong Kong unit is designed to complement that operation, not replace it. Together, the two offices are meant to give Metaplanet investment coverage across Asia, the U.S. and Europe.
Project Nova Takes Shape
The Hong Kong subsidiary sits inside Project Nova, Metaplanet’s plan to turn its Bitcoin treasury into a broader financial-services platform. The initiative covers asset management, securities distribution, capital markets and credit products tied to Bitcoin.
In June, Metaplanet agreed to acquire Japanese brokerage Siiibo Securities for 2.1 billion yen. The deal closed in July and the business was renamed Metaplanet Securities, which holds a Type I Financial Instruments Business registration in Japan.
Working with JPYC and tokenization firm Progmat, Metaplanet has started studying Bitcoin-backed digital credit products, including digital corporate bonds and security tokens. No product or launch terms have been set yet.
Bitcoin Treasury and U.S. Expansion
Metaplanet reported 43,000 BTC in its treasury after adding 2,823 BTC during the second quarter. CEO Simon Gerovich confirmed after reports of BTC movement: “No bitcoin was sold, and our holdings remain 43,000 BTC.”
A separate August deal will place 2,100 BTC and $2.5 million into Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise. Metaplanet expects to secure a 95.7% stake and rename the company Superplanet, with a proposed Nasdaq ticker of SUPA.
The deal includes a five-year lockup on common stock Metaplanet receives through the transaction. Metaplanet would appoint five of the nine board members under the agreement.
The Hong Kong filing does not confirm whether the unit holds or plans to obtain a Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission license. No client launch date, initial assets under management or outside investors were named.
Metaplanet said the subsidiary is expected to have minimal impact on its consolidated results for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2026.
