Both men are from Waller, Texas. They were sentenced on Thursday before US District Judge Donovan W. Frank, according to a Friday news release. They had pleaded guilty in June.
Each brother pleaded guilty to one count of interference with commerce by robbery. The charge covers the armed robbery of a family in Grant, Minnesota.
What happened inside the home
On Sept. 19, 2025, the brothers traveled from Texas to Minnesota. Court documents say they kidnapped a man, called Victim 1, and his family at gunpoint in their home.
The brothers zip-tied the family and held them for more than nine hours. They demanded access to Victim 1’s crypto accounts.
Prosecutors said Isiah Garcia pressed the father to log into his accounts. He was told to send funds to a wallet that his brother provided.
The brothers did not get the amount they expected. They later learned the father had more crypto in a hard drive-style wallet at a cabin about three hours away.
They forced Victim 1 to drive to the cabin in upstate Minnesota. There they took more crypto from other devices, bringing the total to more than $8 million.
The victim’s son called 911, and the brothers fled. Police later identified them and arrested them near Houston.
Investigators followed a Wendy’s receipt, video of Raymond Garcia renting a motel room in Roseville, Minnesota, and a rental car. These clues led police to the brothers’ home in Waller, Texas. Officers made the arrests soon after.
Officials respond
FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson said the brothers’ actions were targeted and extremely violent. He called the crime a brazen act of violence and greed.
“Raymond and Isiah Garcia violated the sanctity of a home, abducted a victim, terrorized a family at gunpoint for hours, and disrupted an entire community,” Dotson said. He made the statement on Friday.
CertiK said it verified 52 wrench attacks worldwide in the first half of 2026. That was up 33% from 39 incidents in the same period of 2025.
Kidnappings rose to 16 from 12 over that time. The figures come from CertiK’s July report.
