Transfer Raises Questions About Treasury Plans
Metaplanet paid an average price slightly above $96,000 for its Bitcoin holdings. The company has spent more than $4.1 billion building the position.
Bitcoin’s price decline has pushed the value of those holdings below their acquisition cost. Based on current market prices, Metaplanet is sitting on an estimated paper loss of about $1.4 billion.
The latest movement does not confirm a Bitcoin sale. Companies often move digital assets between wallets for custody, security, or treasury management.
Still, corporate Bitcoin sales have increased this year. Strategy, the largest public Bitcoin holder, has completed several sales, while miners and other firms have also reduced some holdings. Metaplanet has not announced a Bitcoin sale so far.
