TLDR
- Xanadu Quantum Technologies announced a multiyear partnership with GlobalFoundries to mass-produce quantum hardware components.
- GlobalFoundries will manufacture Xanadu’s light sensors and chip materials at its 300-millimeter facility in Malta, New York.
- Xanadu stock jumped 9% on the news, while GlobalFoundries gained about 1%.
- GlobalFoundries recently secured a $375 million deal with the U.S. Commerce Department, giving the government a roughly 1% stake in the company.
- The deal marks a shift for Xanadu from lab-scale prototyping to industrial-grade production.
Xanadu Quantum Technologies stock rose 9% on Tuesday after the company announced a new manufacturing partnership. The move pushed shares as high as $4.82 during the session.

The deal pairs Xanadu with GlobalFoundries, a chip maker with deep roots in the semiconductor world. Under the agreement, GlobalFoundries will mass-produce two key pieces of Xanadu’s photonic quantum hardware.
Those components are ultra-low loss silicon nitride photonics and superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors. The detectors work by counting the number of photons in a single pulse of light, a critical function for systems that use light particles to process information.
What The Partnership Covers
Production will run through GlobalFoundries’ 300-millimeter line in Malta, New York. The companies say this marks a real shift, moving Xanadu’s tech out of the lab and into industrial-scale manufacturing.

Xanadu CEO Christian Weedbrook called the move to high-volume manufacturing “fundamental to delivering quantum computing at scale.” He added that the partnership lets Xanadu refine and expand its existing photonics platform.
GlobalFoundries’ Nicholas Sergeant, who leads the company’s Quantum Technology Solutions unit, echoed that sentiment. He said the deal creates a path to industrialize the parts needed for fault-tolerant quantum systems down the line.
The output from this work is expected to feed directly into Xanadu’s next generation of fault-tolerant demonstrators. Both companies say they’re also eyeing additional quantum modules for future collaboration.
GlobalFoundries’ Growing Quantum Portfolio
This isn’t GlobalFoundries’ first rodeo in the quantum space, not by a long shot. Last month, the company finalized a $375 million agreement with the U.S. Commerce Department to launch its Quantum Technology Solutions unit.
That deal came with a catch: the government picked up a roughly 1% stake in GlobalFoundries as part of the arrangement. It’s part of a broader federal push to secure quantum manufacturing on U.S. soil.
GlobalFoundries also carries “Trusted Foundry” status from the Defense Department. That accreditation confirms the company meets federal security standards, making it an easy pick for government-linked quantum work.
The company’s quantum ties go back further still. GlobalFoundries took over IBM’s semiconductor manufacturing division back in 2015, cementing its place in advanced chip production.
As for Xanadu, the company made its public trading debut in March through a blank-check merger. It bills itself as the first publicly listed pure play on photonic quantum computing.
That debut landed amid a wave of quantum listings, arriving within weeks of peers Infleqtion and Horizon Quantum. Xanadu has pulled in heavy government funding in its native Canada.
The company has not landed similar U.S. federal deals yet, and it was notably left out of a funding package announced back in May. Still, Xanadu has ties to U.S. defense research: it has progressed through DARPA’s benchmarking initiative, a program that validates quantum computing approaches for participating companies.
