Token Escrows Expand to RLUSD
XRPL validator Vet confirmed the upcoming expansion of escrow functionality beyond native XRP tokens. This change will introduce escrow capabilities for RLUSD, Rippleās upcoming stablecoin, through amendment-based implementation. It allows XRPL accounts to lock issued tokens with similar functionality used for XRP.
The upgrade modifies key escrow transaction types, including EscrowCreate, EscrowFinish, and EscrowCancel, to support IOUs and MPTs. The amendment ensures escrow logic properly manages trustline permissions, transfer rates, and locked balances. It also integrates controls for freeze and authorization, increasing asset flexibility and compliance.

Currently only XRP can be escrowed. With this amendment assets like RLUSD, tokenized real world assets and meme coins can be escrowed as well.

XRPL will enforce new checks for escrowed RLUSD accounts to maintain ledger consistency and protect locked balances. Moreover, additional ledger fields will track IOU and MPT escrows for transparency and record-keeping. The GatewayBalances RPC will also report locked amounts, enhancing asset management.
Meme Coin Adoption on XRPL Grows
