He secured over 60% of the vote after receiving support from President Donald Trump and crypto-linked political groups. Federal filings show that a crypto-affiliated PAC spent about $514,000 to support his campaign.
James Baird Secures Primary with Crypto PAC Backing
James Baird defeated challenger Craig Haggard and other Republican candidates in the primary contest. He captured more than 60% of the vote, according to election results. Voters returned him as the party’s candidate for the 4th Congressional District.
Federal Election Commission filings show that the Defend American Jobs PAC spent about $514,000 on advertising. The PAC supported Baird’s reelection campaign through media placements. Records link the PAC to Fairshake, a committee backed by crypto companies.
Fairshake receives funding from firms including Coinbase and Ripple Labs. The committee reported holding $193 million as of January. It also spent more than $130 million during the 2024 US election cycle.
A Fairshake spokesperson spoke before the primary vote. The spokesperson said, “Representative Baird has been a proven leader for pro-job, pro-consumer, and pro-innovation policies in Congress.” The spokesperson added, “We’re proud to support leaders committed to responsible regulation that ensures the US remains the global leader in innovation.”
Baird also received an endorsement from Donald Trump before the primary. After his victory, Baird reportedly thanked the US President for his support. Trump’s endorsement formed part of Baird’s campaign outreach.
Stablecoin Compromise Advances CLARITY Act Debate
Since taking office in January 2019, Baird has backed crypto-related legislation. He supported the GENIUS stablecoin act and the market structure bill known as the CLARITY Act. Lawmakers consider both measures favorable to the digital asset industry.
Senators Thom Tillis and Angela Alsobrooks announced a finalized CLARITY Act text last week. They included a compromise addressing stablecoin yield provisions. The provision had raised concerns within banking and crypto sectors.
The Senate Banking Committee has not scheduled a markup on the bill. However, many lawmakers expect the stablecoin agreement to move the legislation forward. The market structure proposal had stalled in the chamber for months.
Trump’s ties to the crypto sector have drawn attention during the Senate’s review. Lawmakers have discussed ethics provisions related to digital assets before a vote. These discussions continue as the Senate reviews the updated bill.
Fairshake plans further political spending during the 2026 midterm elections. The committee said it will support candidates it views as pro-crypto. It also plans to oppose candidates it considers anti-crypto.
As of Wednesday, Fairshake and its affiliates have spent about $10 million in 2026 races. The spending targeted contests in Illinois and Texas. The Senate Banking Committee had not set a markup date as of Wednesday.
