TLDR
- Eric Trump called rumors of a new Trump-family crypto launch “absolutely not true” and labeled them fraud
- The rumor originated from a post by @WhaleScan on X, claiming Donald Trump was about to launch a new coin
- A separate post claimed a Robinhood Chain wallet received 290 ETH linked to something called “Truth Coin”
- TRUMP jumped 38% and MELANIA gained 18.4% in 24 hours while the rumor circulated
- Neither post contained any official announcement, ticker, or contract address
On August 22, Eric Trump posted on X to deny that the Trump family was launching any new cryptocurrency. His message was direct: “What a joke… This is absolutely not true. No one is launching any kind of coin. If anyone is suggesting otherwise, it’s a fraud.”

The denial came in response to a post from @WhaleScan that declared, “DONALD TRUMP IS OFFICIALLY ABOUT TO LAUNCH HIS NEW COIN.” The post offered no announcement, no ticker symbol, and no contract address to back up the claim.
A second post, published at 3:03 p.m. ET, claimed that a new Robinhood Chain wallet had received 290 ETH and was interacting with contracts labeled “WWW / ‘Truth Coin’.” That post also failed to name a wallet address or identify who controlled it.
Eric Trump’s response did not address either post’s specific details. He rejected the core claim outright.
How the Rumor Spread
The claims gained traction partly because the Trump family already has a real crypto footprint. Eric Trump is publicly linked to World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance project that launched in 2024. The family is also connected to American Bitcoin, a separate venture.
Previous meme coin launches gave the rumor extra fuel. Both TRUMP and MELANIA exist as tokens trading on the back of the Trump brand. Those earlier launches created an expectation among some investors that more tokens could follow at any time.
That backdrop made the @WhaleScan posts easy to believe for those already watching the space for Trump-related crypto activity.
Token Prices Moved Sharply
While the rumor circulated, both existing Trump-linked tokens moved sharply. TRUMP traded at $2.47, up 37.9% over 24 hours, with a range of $1.79 to $3.60, according to CoinGecko. MELANIA was listed at $0.1112, up 18.4%, with a 24-hour range of $0.09085 to $0.1614.

Both tokens were below their 24-hour highs at the time of reporting. CoinGecko’s data confirmed the size of the price moves but did not identify a single cause.
The market data showed how quickly unverified rumors can move token prices, even without any official confirmation.
Eric Trump’s denial was the only statement from anyone with authority over Trump-linked crypto projects. No response came from Robinhood or any named token issuer.
The episode follows a pattern. Rumors about Trump family crypto launches have surfaced and been disproven before, yet new rounds of speculation continue to find an audience.
