Ripple Unlock Reduces Escrow Balance
Ripple created its escrow system in 2017 after placing 55 billion XRP into time-locked accounts. The company designed the system to provide a clear release schedule while allowing unused tokens to return to escrow.
On August 31, about 32.28 billion XRP remained locked in active XRPL escrow accounts. After the September Ripple unlock, the balance fell to about 31.28 billion XRP, equal to roughly 31.28% of XRP’s fixed 100 billion supply.
The monthly release does not show that Ripple sold 1 billion XRP into the market. Ripple has regularly returned part of each monthly release to new escrow accounts, which limits the amount that can enter circulation.
As a result, the total amount of XRP reaching exchanges or other market channels can remain well below the full release. The escrow system continues to control when large XRP balances become available.
XRP Price Shows Recent Gains
XRP price traded near $1.39 after the latest release and gained about 1.7% over the previous 24 hours. The token also rose roughly 30.8% over the past 30 days and 14.5% over the last 90 days.
Despite those gains, XRP remained lower year to date. Price action around the Ripple unlock showed continued trading activity as market participants tracked both supply changes and broader crypto market conditions.
More than $2.3 million in XRP positions were liquidated during the past 24 hours. Short liquidations reached about $1.5 million, while long liquidations totaled close to $793,000.
The difference shows that short traders faced larger losses during XRP’s recent upward move. Traders will continue watching XRP price levels, escrow activity, and future monthly releases as Ripple follows its established schedule.
