The two firms are anchoring the fund with $400 million and plan to attract up to $3 billion from outside institutional investors.
How the Fund Works
Fasanara will manage the fund and deploy capital through its network of fintech lenders. The focus will be on short-term, asset-backed loans to small and medium-sized businesses and consumers.
The fund will operate across more than 60 countries. Lending categories include trade receivables and supply chain finance.
Tether’s role is to source USDT-linked financing opportunities and provide the stablecoin infrastructure needed to move money across borders. This includes converting between traditional currencies and digital dollars.
USDT will act as the settlement layer, allowing the fund to operate on and off blockchain networks as needed.
Tether’s Expanding Business
Tether generated about $1.5 billion in net operating profit in the second quarter of this year, mainly from US Treasury and repo holdings. The company reported $187.8 billion in assets and a $4.11 billion reserve buffer at the end of June.
USDT is the world’s largest stablecoin with a market cap of $145 billion, making up more than half of the $300 billion stablecoin market. It is widely used in emerging economies.
Tether has been putting its profits to work in a range of investments beyond its core stablecoin business.
Recent moves include a $20 million investment in Argentine neobank Ualá, stakes in Mercado Bitcoin and Italian football club Juventus, and leading a $50 million funding round for AI sleep technology company Eight Sleep in March.
Fasanara currently manages more than $6 billion in assets and specializes in private credit through fintech platforms.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the fund allows the company to play to its strengths. “Through this fund, Tether is playing the role it is best positioned to play, sourcing USDT-linked financing opportunities and providing the stablecoin infrastructure that enables seamless cross-border lending,” he said.
StableFund is structured as an evergreen vehicle, meaning it does not have a fixed end date and can continuously accept new capital.
