XRP price is facing a technical test after its weekly Super Trend indicator turned bullish on August 17. The signal appeared after XRP climbed about 70% from $0.98 to $1.70, but past cycles show similar flips have often come before sharp corrections.
Analyst ChartNerd said XRP now sits in a tight range between weekly moving averages. The token traded near $1.38 after slipping close to 4% over 24 hours, while remaining 1.5% higher over the past week.
XRP Price Stalls Near Weekly Resistance
ChartNerd said XRP has struggled near the 50-week EMA, which stands around $1.52. The 20-week EMA sits near $1.29 to $1.30, leaving XRP trapped between support and resistance as traders wait for a break.

The analyst described the current setup as compression while XRP stays below the 50-week EMA and above the 20-week EMA. He added that a move above $1.52 remains possible, but such a break would not erase the warning created by earlier Super Trend signals.
Past Cycles Show Similar Pullbacks
XRP showed comparable patterns in earlier market cycles. In 2022, the token rallied about 90% from its cycle low before a bullish Super Trend flip appeared near the 50-week EMA. XRP later dropped about 45%.
A similar move appeared in 2019, when a bullish flip during a bear market came before a 56% decline. After the 2020 cycle low, XRP also produced the same signal before falling about 32%, according to ChartNerd.
Traders Watch $1.50 to $1.90 Zone
ChartNerd placed greater focus on the $1.50 to $1.90 area. He said XRP would need to clear that range before a move toward its previous high becomes more convincing. XRP still trades about 62% below its July 2025 record of $3.65.
Bitcoin price has also influenced recent XRP price moves. BTC has traded between about $77,600 and $80,000 in recent days, while XRP has largely followed those swings instead of showing a separate trend.
XRP futures trading increased in August, with volume across the three largest exchanges exceeding $64 billion. That marked the busiest month for XRP futures in about six months and showed activity in derivatives markets.
Spot XRP ETFs still attracted capital, although inflows slowed. Weekly inflows fell below $19 million after topping $110 million the previous week. SoSoValue data shows net inflows of about $13.83 million so far this week.
