Ford has issued a recall covering 223,472 vehicles after finding that fuel tank straps on certain F-150 trucks may have been improperly assembled. The recall was filed on Sept. 9, 2026, and posted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.
JUST IN: Ford recalls ~223,500 F-150 pickups over fuel tanks that could leak or detach while driving
— Kalshi (@Kalshi) September 14, 2026
The recall number is 26S69.
Ford stock dropped fractionally in Monday afternoon trading after the news broke. F was already down 0.79% on the day. Over the past year, the stock has still gained nearly 20%.
The core issue is straightforward. The front fuel tank straps on affected trucks may not be properly secured. That can cause the tank to leak fuel or detach from the vehicle while driving. Either scenario raises the risk of a crash, engine stall, or fire.
No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
The vehicles affected are 2023-2027 Ford F-150s built between Jan. 4, 2023, and Aug. 27, 2026. The F-150 is one of Ford’s top-selling models, which makes the scope of this recall hard to ignore.
Owners do not need to pay anything. Dealerships will inspect the fuel tank straps and replace them if needed at no charge.
Ford will begin mailing notification letters to affected owners on Sept. 21. Owners can also contact Ford directly at 1-866-436-7332.
A Different Kind of F-150 News
Not all F-150 news this week was negative. Car and Driver reported on a new Ford patent that could let drivers nudge their truck forward or backward small distances without getting behind the wheel.
The patent is called “systems and methods for moving a vehicle using externally mounted HMI.” It would use the F-series’ existing pop-up grab handle to push or pull the vehicle tiny distances, useful for precise parking or load placement.
The movement is currently limited to forward and reverse only.
What Wall Street Thinks of Ford Stock
Despite the recall news, analyst sentiment on Ford remains cautiously positive.
Based on ratings from the past three months, Ford holds a Moderate Buy consensus. That breaks down as seven Buy ratings, six Holds, and one Sell.
The average price target sits at $15.88 per share, implying about 14% upside from current levels.
This recall adds to a longer list Ford has been managing. The company has worked to address quality concerns across its lineup, with some success, but recalls like this one continue to test investor confidence.
The NHTSA posting confirms no injuries linked to this issue have been reported to date.
