The app is self-custodial, meaning users hold their own assets. It supports stablecoin payments, digital asset trading, and earning rewards. Users can hold balances in eight currencies and send supported digital assets to other World users by username.
Stripe and Apple Pay Come to Crypto Payments
One of the bigger features is a partnership with Stripe. U.S. users can now fund their World Money accounts and buy stablecoins directly through Apple Pay. The conversion typically happens within minutes, according to World.
The app also connects to third-party services through what World calls Mini Apps. These include Kalshi, a prediction market platform, and Morpho, a decentralized lending protocol.
World ID, the project’s biometric identity verification system, is built into the app. Users who verify their identity can unlock boosted rewards on eligible Earn programs.
Two Apps Now Handle Identity and Finance Separately
With this launch, World has split its services into two apps. The World ID App handles identity verification and credentials. World Money covers the wallet, payments, and financial tools. Existing users of the old World App can log in with their current accounts.
World Money is operated by Tools for Humanity, the company co-founded by Sam Altman, who also leads OpenAI, and Alex Blania.
The company has been building toward a super app for some time. In March 2025, World added crypto payments and chat features to its existing app. That summer, Circle launched native USDC on World, replacing bridged USDC in World App wallets.
In October 2024, World introduced World App 3.0, which added third-party Mini Apps and a Vault feature for earning on assets. In November 2025, it piloted virtual bank accounts in the U.S. before expanding to more countries a month later. Those accounts allowed paychecks and bank transfers to be converted into USDC automatically.
World said its network is built around verified human identity. The company argues that as AI makes fake accounts easier to create, a verified human network adds trust to financial transactions.
“Money moves differently when accounts belong to people,” World said in its announcement.
The launch of World Money marks the latest step in World’s push to become a full financial platform built on crypto infrastructure and human identity verification.
