The DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS) lets eligible users mint tokenized versions of securities held at DTC. DTCC clients can use the service.
DTS converts between traditional and tokenized forms of securities. The tokens can move to digital wallets. They keep the same ownership rights and investor protections as traditional securities.
DTCC said the process could improve access to liquidity. Firms could also move collateral within minutes.
SEC Clearance and Pilot Testing
In December 2025, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued a “no action” letter. It said it would not recommend enforcement action against DTC over its proposed tokenization program.
The framework covers eligible Russell 1000 stocks, major index ETFs and U.S. Treasury securities. Tokenized versions keep the rights and benefits of the traditional securities.
In May, DTCC said it planned a full launch of tokenized securities trading in October 2026. A pilot in July came first.
During that pilot, DTCC completed limited-production transactions with more than 30 financial firms. The tests used tokenized assets in live trades.
Firms and Networks Behind the Service
DTCC said 20 clients have signed agreements to use the service. They include Alpaca, Citadel Securities, Citi, Clear Street, DriveWealth, Fidelity Investments, Interchange Clearing and JPMorgan.
CoinGape reported that Morgan Stanley, Bank of America and Barclays are also joining. DTCC expects more participants as the service grows.
DTC has more than $114 trillion in assets under custody. That includes stocks and exchange-traded funds. DTCC said the service creates a “practical path” for tokenized securities adoption.
DTCC President and CEO Frank La Salla said the firm is laying the groundwork for “responsible institutional adoption at scale.” Brian Steele, president of Clearing & Securities Services, said the industry is ready to move from experimentation to practical use.
The service starts with support for 34 securities. It currently works with the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu network. DTCC plans to add more blockchain networks in 2027.
DTCC is working with digital asset firms including BitGo, Fireblocks, Blockdaemon, Broadridge and Ondo. The platform was developed with more than 150 financial institutions.
Separately, Ondo Finance said it joined DTCC’s Fund/SERV network. This lets its tokenized fund operations connect with existing U.S. investment distribution channels.
