Hunter Biden is launching a memecoin called LAPTOP on Wednesday, using the name of the device that became one of the biggest political controversies of recent years.
Biden introduced the token on social media platform X, saying it represents “resilience, redemption, and recovery.” He framed the project as a way to take back a scandal that was used against him for years.
“They turned laptop into a weapon. I turned it into a token,” Biden wrote.

How the Token Supply Is Split
The total supply is 1 billion tokens. A 20% portion will go to community airdrops. At launch, 10% will be available through a claim portal run by the Phoenix Veritas Foundation, which manages the token. The remaining 10% will be distributed later at the foundation’s discretion.
Two groups are eligible for the airdrop. Holders who lost money on Donald Trump’s TRUMP memecoin will receive 2% of supply. Subscribers to Biden’s personal newsletter, “Where’s Hunter?”, will receive 8%.
Biden criticized the TRUMP token directly, saying it left nearly 1 million wallets with $3.8 billion in combined losses. He called it a “grift.”
Another 30% of the LAPTOP supply is tied to 30 real-world political events, many linked to prediction markets on Polymarket. If a predicted event happens, tokens tied to that outcome are burned. If it does not happen, those tokens go to charity. An additional 50 million tokens are committed to charity regardless of outcomes.
Industry Reaction
The launch has not been welcomed by everyone. Kraken, one of the largest crypto exchanges, deleted a promotional post after traders pushed back against it.
Video journalist Andrew Callaghan, whose audience was included in a planned airdrop, publicly distanced himself from the project.
Jesse Pollak, founder of Base, the Coinbase-built blockchain where LAPTOP will launch, said his team made a “conscious decision” not to help design or promote the token. He confirmed Base has no partnership with the project.
Founders, including Biden, will receive 30% of supply, subject to a six-month lock-up and then a 24-month vesting period. Another 10% is set aside for liquidity, and 5% goes to the foundation treasury for operations.
Biden was clear that buyers should not expect anyone to increase the token’s value. “LAPTOP isn’t just about owning something, it’s about saying something,” he wrote.
Hunter Biden’s laptop originally became public in 2019 after he left it at a Delaware repair shop. Files from the device were later used as evidence in his 2024 federal firearm conviction.
