The September 24 dinner will also include Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Apple Executive Chairman Tim Cook and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, according to Bloomberg.
The gathering comes during a wider U.S.-China summit focused on trade, artificial intelligence and other economic issues.
Technology is expected to feature prominently as the world’s two largest economies compete over AI development while also discussing possible areas of cooperation.
Microsoft, Nvidia and OpenAI Leaders Head to White House
Nadella’s planned attendance adds Microsoft to a group of major U.S. technology companies represented at the dinner.
Microsoft declined to comment on the report.
The presence of Nvidia, OpenAI, Apple and Qualcomm executives puts several companies central to AI chips, software, consumer technology and communications at the same event.
The meeting comes shortly after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for a slower pace of AI development.
Amodei warned that increasingly capable AI systems could develop faster than safeguards designed to control their risks.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed support for greater caution, while Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has argued against slowing development.
The Trump administration has also rejected calls for a broad U.S. slowdown.
Trump has argued that reducing the pace of American AI development could allow China to close the gap with U.S. companies.
China has also criticized warnings about AI development, describing some of the concerns as excessive.
US and China Discuss New AI Dialogue
The state dinner comes as U.S. and Chinese officials discuss creating a new communication channel focused specifically on artificial intelligence.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in New York on Sunday ahead of the Trump-Xi summit.
Bessent said the two sides discussed establishing a U.S.-China AI dialogue.
The proposed arrangement could include a notification system for AI incidents that reach the level of a national security concern.
Bessent said greater communication between the world’s two largest AI powers could improve transparency around shared risks.
Chinese state media said the discussions were candid and constructive and confirmed that officials discussed AI issues.
The two sides also agreed to continue talks.
Trump and Xi are scheduled to meet at the White House on Thursday.
Trade and investment are also expected to feature heavily in the meeting, alongside tariffs, critical minerals and AI policy.
The summit comes as competition between U.S. and Chinese technology companies continues across AI models, semiconductors and computing infrastructure.
For now, the proposed AI dialogue remains at an early stage, while the September 24 state dinner will bring several of the most influential U.S. technology executives together with the two governments.
