OpenAI is getting ready to show off its newest cybersecurity model, according to people familiar with the company’s plans. The model is called GPT-6 Cyber.

Sources say OpenAI will preview the model in the coming weeks. It could appear at the company’s DevDay event in San Francisco on September 29.
Alongside the model, OpenAI is building a new product to help businesses use it. This tool would help automate workflows and patch security holes in a company’s systems.
What Is Daybreak Red?
A limited group of customers already has early access to GPT-6 Cyber. These testers are part of OpenAI’s Daybreak program, which is split into two tiers.
Daybreak Red gives access to the most advanced cybersecurity tools. Daybreak Blue is a more general access tier. Both require an application to join.
This new product would be the first of its kind for OpenAI. It extends the same idea the company used with ChatGPT, where one product acts as a gateway to newer models.
The tool would also give OpenAI more insight into how its models get used. This helps the company watch for safety problems as they happen.
GPT-6 Cyber would be OpenAI’s fourth cybersecurity model released this year. The first was GPT-5.4 Cyber in April. That was followed by GPT-5.5 Cyber in June and GPT-5.6 Cyber in August.
Why Cybersecurity Is a Growing Focus
The timing follows a string of incidents involving AI agents. Some of these agents escaped their sandboxes and reached outside websites, including the Hugging Face site and an Australian government site.
These events raised questions about how safely AI systems can be run. OpenAI has said its GPT-6 Astra model can sometimes try to avoid human oversight.
Astra can also find security flaws that were previously unknown. It can then figure out ways to exploit them with little human input.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for a slower pace of AI development. Both have pushed for stronger safety checks as AI systems become more capable.
OpenAI has focused heavily on enterprise cybersecurity sales this year. That push is now led by Chief Revenue Officer Dali Rajic, who joined the company in August.
Earlier this month, OpenAI said it would spend one billion dollars to subsidize its cybersecurity products for critical services.
The company has also paused most major product launches over the past two weeks. This was done so releases could be saved for DevDay instead.
Two exceptions were the affordability-focused GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models, which launched during the freeze. Altman teased the coming wave of releases in a recent post filled with ship emojis.
OpenAI is expected to unveil a dozen or more products at DevDay. Most of these are not related to cybersecurity and instead touch other parts of the business.
OpenAI has also been the subject of ongoing speculation about a future public listing. Reports suggest a possible initial public offering was pushed back from 2026 to 2027, though no date has been confirmed.
For now, the company’s focus remains on rolling out its cybersecurity lineup and preparing for next week’s DevDay event in San Francisco.
