TLDR
- The LSE plans to launch a separate overnight trading venue in the first half of 2027
- The night market will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. London time
- It will initially offer exchange-traded products linked to UK and US markets
- Crypto markets and tokenized equity platforms already offer around-the-clock trading
- Nasdaq, CME and Cboe are also pursuing longer trading hours
The London Stock Exchange is planning to open a separate overnight trading venue in the first half of 2027. The move comes as crypto markets and tokenized equity platforms continue to offer trading hours that traditional stock exchanges cannot match.
*London Stock Exchange* to launch around the clock trading…
Yet another example of tradfi bending knee to expectations set by crypto.
Once investors realize they can have 24/7 trading, real-time settlement, easier access, etc… everything else looks antiquated.

The new venue will not replace the LSE’s main market. The main market will keep its standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. London time.
How the Overnight Venue Will Work
The overnight platform will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. London time. There will be a short break from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for end-of-day processing.
The LSE plans to start with exchange-traded products rather than individual company shares. These ETPs will track UK and US markets.
LSE CEO Julia Hoggett told the Financial Times that retail traders want to use London’s time zone to access both UK and global assets. She said there is growing appetite for this kind of access.
The time zone angle is key. London sits between Asian and American markets, making it a useful hub for investors trading outside standard local hours.
The Crypto and Tokenized Equity Push
The LSE move comes as pressure builds from crypto and tokenized stock platforms. Crypto exchanges operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Retail platforms have also expanded pre-market and after-hours access to stocks.
Tokenized stock transfers rose 105% in one month to $8.41 billion, according to RWA.xyz data. The number of holders of tokenized equities exceeded 409,000.
Backpack launched 24/7 trading for selected US equities across more than 150 markets. It also offers Solana-based tokenized versions of stocks that users can transfer between wallets.
Binance launched bStocks in June. The product lets eligible users convert US stock holdings into tokenized assets that trade around the clock. The first batch included companies like Nvidia, Tesla and Circle, backed 1:1 by underlying securities.
Meanwhile, Nasdaq said it plans to introduce 24-hour weekday trading in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approval. CME and Cboe are also pursuing extended hours.
What Comes Next for the LSE
The LSE has not yet released a full product list or detailed fee structure. The exchange has only confirmed it is targeting the first half of 2027 for launch.
Traditional financial firms are also expanding work on tokenized assets. The DTCC is building a regulated tokenization service, with more than 50 firms in a related industry working group.
The LSE’s overnight venue will stay within a traditional exchange structure. It will not move products onto blockchain rails. That sets it apart from crypto-native platforms but still addresses demand for wider trading access.
