Elon Musk’s X is considering stablecoins for creator payments, with Circle’s USDC among the options under discussion as the platform develops a new rewards system for original content.
X Considers USDC for Creator Rewards
X is exploring whether stablecoins could support payments to creators and influencers across its global user base. USDC, the dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Circle, is reportedly among the assets under consideration.
The platform has not announced a final decision, launch date or payment structure. Discussions remain ongoing, and X has not confirmed whether USDC or another stablecoin will become part of its creator payout system.
The talks come as X changes how it rewards creators. Its Original Content Rewards Program is replacing an earlier revenue-sharing model that relied more heavily on views and advertising income.
The newer system focuses on original reporting, commentary, expertise and creative work. Stablecoins could provide another payment rail for users outside the United States, where bank transfers can take longer or cost more.
Stablecoins Could Support Cross-Border Payments
X serves creators across many countries, which makes payout infrastructure more complex. Stablecoins can move across blockchain networks without depending entirely on local banking systems, while their dollar-linked value can reduce the volatility associated with other cryptocurrencies.
The total stablecoin market has grown beyond $300 billion, reflecting wider use in crypto trading, settlement and cross-border payments. USDC has also expanded through partnerships with financial and technology companies that use it for transfers and digital payments.
If X adopts stablecoins, creators could receive payments through digital wallets instead of relying only on traditional banking channels. However, the final design would still need to address local rules, wallet support, taxes and user eligibility.
Circle could also gain another distribution channel if X selects USDC. Still, no agreement between the companies has been publicly confirmed.
Stablecoin Talks Fit X’s Wider Payments Push
The discussions align with Musk’s broader plan to expand X beyond social media and add financial services. The company has been developing X Money as part of that strategy and has secured payment licenses in several U.S. states.
X has also partnered with Visa on digital wallet services as it builds payment infrastructure. Stablecoin-based creator payouts could operate alongside those traditional payment tools rather than replace them entirely.
Other Musk-linked businesses have already used digital assets in limited payment settings. SpaceX has reportedly accepted stablecoins for some Starlink-related cross-border transactions in emerging markets, while Dogecoin has also appeared in parts of Musk’s wider business ecosystem.
X has also added more crypto experience to its leadership. Benji Taylor, who previously worked on Coinbase’s Base blockchain network, joined the company as head of design in March.
