XRP Ledger (XRPL) developers are moving toward full post-quantum readiness by 2028 as blockchain networks prepare for future cryptographic risks. Ripple’s published roadmap includes active testing, hybrid signature deployment and a contingency plan for a possible “Quantum-Day.” The target places XRPL’s planned full transition ahead of Ethereum’s December 2029 goal for post-quantum protection across its main network.
XRP Ledger Builds a Phased Security Plan
Ripple plans to test quantum-resistant signature methods under real network conditions before wider deployment. The work will measure signature size, verification costs, throughput, and network efficiency. Project Eleven is supporting validator testing, Devnet benchmarking, and development of a post-quantum custody wallet prototype.
Quantum secure accounts is just one part, Algorand is not fully quantum ready either. Lots of Ed25519 use on the network.

The roadmap also uses a hybrid model that keeps current signatures active while new methods run alongside them. Ripple expects this approach to support gradual adoption without forcing an immediate network-wide switch. XRPL’s existing key rotation design can also let users change signing keys while keeping the same account address.
Quantum-Day Plan Adds Emergency Option
Ripple has outlined a Quantum-Day response plan for a faster migration if quantum computing advances sooner than expected. The plan aims to move exposed accounts toward safer cryptography while allowing the XRP Ledger to continue operating.
This preparation focuses on reducing disruption for users, exchanges and custody providers. A staged migration could give infrastructure operators more time to test wallet systems, validator software and transaction handling before post-quantum signatures become the main standard.
Algorand and Ethereum Follow Separate Timelines
Algorand has already introduced native Falcon-1024 post-quantum accounts on mainnet. Its broader roadmap targets quantum resilience across wallets, tooling, and consensus by the end of 2027. Algorand also continues supporting standard Ed25519 accounts, so the network currently offers both classical and post-quantum account options.
Ethereum is pursuing a wider protocol transition through its dedicated post-quantum program. The Ethereum Foundation now targets December 2029 for quantum resistance across execution, consensus, and data layers. XRPL’s 2028 target therefore comes earlier than Ethereum’s current schedule, while Algorand is aiming for broader resilience sooner. All three networks are testing migration paths before quantum attacks become practical network threats.
