Coinbase said no customer assets were harmed. It also said the event does not count as a data breach of its own systems.

Exposed email addresses and phone numbers can be used in phishing and social engineering attacks. This can happen even when passwords, private keys and funds are not affected.
The case shows a supply chain risk. Customers can face security risks through third parties even when a company’s core systems stay secure.
An AI-generated trend report from a Korean news outlet rated the short-term market outlook as neutral, with 42% confidence. It said the Fear & Greed Index stood at 51 and the Kimchi Premium was 0.57%.
The same report said Bitcoin’s dominance was 59.43%. It said there was not enough evidence that the market was reacting directly to the Coinbase news.
The incident comes as several financial firms in South Korea also disclosed customer data breaches. Daishin Securities said personal information for 38,490 customers was hacked, including names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers.
The brokerage said it detected signs of unauthorized access by hackers last week. Yonhap News Agency reported that some personal information of Bithumb customers was leaked in a cyberattack by an external party.
Financial authorities have also begun an inspection into the data breach at Mirae Asset Global Investments.
