TLDR
- Petrobras built two Cardano-based apps to track sustainability data for aviation fuel and renewable diesel.
- The aviation tool uses a Book-and-Claim model to stop environmental claims being used twice.
- A second app tracks Diesel R, Petrobras’ renewable diesel blend, through production and transport.
- Both projects are still in research phase with no confirmed commercial launch date.
- An analyst pointed to a defended weekly order block on ADA, with targets set at $1, $3, and $5.
Brazil’s state-controlled oil company Petrobras has built two blockchain applications on Cardano. The tools are designed to track sustainability claims for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel.

The Cardano Foundation announced the news on Wednesday. The first application was built with PUC-Rio’s Ledger Labs.
It turns environmental attributes tied to sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF, into digital tokens. This stops the same environmental claim from being counted more than once.

The system uses a Book-and-Claim model. This separates the environmental benefit of the fuel from where the fuel is actually used.
An airline, company, or passenger can claim the benefit even if the fuel itself is used somewhere else. The tokens are called CS-SAF and carry metadata aligned with CORSIA, an international aviation emissions standard.
Passengers can also claim CS-SAF tokens through an app. They receive a certificate linked to their trip and the related environmental claim.
How The Diesel R Tracking Works
The second application tracks Diesel R, Petrobras’ renewable diesel product. It is made using renewable feedstocks like vegetable oils and animal fats.
Cardano creates digital checkpoints as the fuel moves through production, transport, and use. These checkpoints build a traceable record across the supply chain.
Companies could use this data for Scope 3 emissions reporting. That type of reporting covers indirect emissions, including those from suppliers and delivery partners.
The Cardano Foundation did not share fuel volumes covered by either app. No timeline was given for a wider rollout.
Rafael Fraga, who leads Cardano Foundation business development in Latin America, commented on the work. “The energy transition will be built as much on trust as on new fuels,” Fraga said.
The collaboration between Petrobras and the Cardano Foundation started in 2023. It began with blockchain education for Petrobras staff and expanded in 2025 to energy-sector research with PUC-Rio’s Ledger Labs.
What Analysts Are Saying About ADA
While the Petrobras news centers on blockchain use rather than price, one analyst weighed in on ADA’s market position. Crypto Patel, a trader who posts market analysis on X, said most sellers exited ADA near its lows.
Patel wrote that the weekly order block is holding and the $0.235 level has been reclaimed. He compared the current zone to the demand area that preceded ADA’s 2021 rally.
Everyone Sold $ADA At -94%. Smart Money Bought It.
The Weekly Order Block Is Defended, The Golden Pocket Held, And $0.235 Is Reclaimed. The Same Demand Zone Sat Under The 2021 Run.
Targets: $1 → $3 → $5 🚀
Invalidation: Weekly Close Below $0.137 @Cardano pic.twitter.com/eXQjdqzy6Z— Crypto Patel (@CryptoPatel) September 30, 2026
Patel set targets of $1, $3, and $5 for ADA. He added that the setup would be invalidated on a weekly close below $0.137.
Shell has run a similar sustainability tracking tool since 2022 called Avelia. Shell reported in September that Avelia has supported more than 84 million gallons of SAF entering the global fuel network.
That volume has resulted in more than 780,000 tonnes of CO₂e abatement through June 2026, according to Shell. Australia’s Viva Energy signed a separate agreement with NoviqTech in January to research similar Book-and-Claim systems for aviation fuel.
Both Petrobras projects remain in the research stage. No date has been set for either tool to move into commercial use.
