Coinbase has launched 24/5 US stock trading for eligible users in the United Kingdom. The rollout starts on August 6 and gives customers access to nearly 4,000 American equities. Users can manage stocks, crypto, and cash in one app, supporting the company’s “Everything Exchange” strategy.
Coinbase Brings US Equities to UK Users
Eligible customers can buy and sell US shares for 24 hours a day, five days a week. The service offers commission-free trading and fractional shares from £1. Coinbase said access will expand in stages across the UK.
Users can fund stock purchases with British pounds or USDC held in their accounts. Coinbase One members can also earn uncapped rewards when using USDC. The company said the service aims to make investing simpler for customers who already use its crypto platform.
The new product gives users access to conventional US stocks through brokerage systems. It does not include tokenized shares. Tokenized equities use blockchain networks to represent ownership in listed companies and may support wider trading hours.
Coinbase received approval to offer stock trading in the UK last month. The company also said it plans to introduce tokenized stocks later. Those products may track US shares and could include rights such as dividend payments. They are not part of the current launch.
Everything Exchange Strategy Expands Globally
The UK rollout places Coinbase in closer competition with firms that offer both stocks and crypto. Robinhood has expanded its crypto products, while Kraken and Gemini have moved into tokenized equities. Each platform is building services that let users manage several asset types from one account.
Coinbase also expanded its Australian business on August 6. Its local unit introduced licensed perpetual futures for certified wholesale investors. The product offers up to 50 times leverage across more than 150 crypto, equity, and commodity contracts under an Australian Financial Services Licence.
The two launches target different markets. UK customers receive retail stock trading, while Australian clients gain access to advanced derivatives. Coinbase is adjusting its products to match local rules and customer needs.
The stock service may also help Coinbase reduce its reliance on crypto trading fees. Revenue from digital asset transactions can change sharply with market activity. Adding US equities gives the company another way to attract users and build a broader product mix. The rollout will continue gradually across Britain over time.
