Equinix (EQIX) stock climbed 2% on Wednesday after the company unveiled Equinix Inference Exchange, a new distributed AI inference program built with Nvidia and Together AI.
The program combines Nvidia’s Enterprise Reference Architectures, Together AI’s inference platform and Equinix’s global data center infrastructure. The goal is to help enterprises deploy AI workloads faster, at lower cost, and with more flexibility.
Together AI’s platform supports more than 200 open-source models. Those models will be delivered through Equinix’s global data centers and connected via Equinix Fabric to clouds, networks and AI providers.
The announcement was made at Equinix Horizon, the company’s inaugural customer and partner event. Equinix also announced Equinix Fabric One at the event, aimed at helping enterprises connect across distributed AI environments.
CEO Adaire Fox-Martin said the company is “uniquely positioned” to meet enterprise AI demand, citing nearly three decades of building infrastructure for critical workloads.
How the Program Works
The solution is structured in three layers. Equinix provides the physical infrastructure, including power, cooling and day-to-day operations. Nvidia supplies its Enterprise Reference Architectures and AI infrastructure. Together AI runs the inference platform on top, handling both shared and dedicated deployment environments.
The program connects to inference providers across major metros worldwide, which is designed to cut time-to-first-token. It also connects to a broad range of clouds, networks and AI providers to reduce deployment complexity.
Equinix currently operates more than 280 data centers across 77 metros, with 230 cloud on-ramps and over 10,500 interconnected businesses. Eight of the top 10 AI model providers and nine of the top 10 AI clouds are already deployed with Equinix.
What It’s Designed to Do
Equinix Inference Exchange targets three specific enterprise use cases. The first is metro edge inference, which runs AI closer to users and data for lower latency. The second is open model migration, helping enterprises move from proprietary models to open-source alternatives. The third is sovereign AI, which supports companies in regulated industries that need AI workloads to run in specific locations.
Nvidia VP Raj Mirpuri said the collaboration “turns the world’s leading digital interconnection platform into a global fabric for AI inference.”
Together AI co-founder and CEO Vipul Ved Prakash said the partnership proves that model choice and performance “are not trade-offs” but rather “the foundation of enterprise AI done right.”
Equinix Inference Exchange is set to become available in the first quarter of 2027.
