Lucid Group (LCID) is recalling 27,185 of its Air luxury sedans in the United States over a fire risk linked to an exterior lighting circuit. The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Friday, August 28.
The LCID stock was up 2.83% on the day as the news broke.
The issue centres on an exterior lighting circuit that can overheat. According to the NHTSA, that overheating raises the risk of a fire. It can also cause the exterior lights to fail, which increases crash risk.
The NHTSA has told owners to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings until a proper remedy is confirmed.
Lucid has already moved to address the problem. The company released an over-the-air software update, and the NHTSA confirmed that 20,719 of the affected vehicles have already received it.
That still leaves several thousand vehicles without the fix. Owners who have not received the update should check their vehicle’s software status.
Lucid’s Biggest Recall Yet
This recall is the largest in Lucid’s history. The 27,185 vehicles covered exceeds the total number of cars Lucid delivered in all of 2025, when it handed over 15,841 units.
That context puts the scale of this recall in sharp relief. It is not a small technical issue affecting a subset of owners.
A Third Recall in 2026
This is not the first time Lucid has issued a recall this year. In January, the company recalled more than 10,000 vehicles over rearview camera image issues.
In May, Lucid recalled 2,039 vehicles due to loss of drive power.
Friday’s recall brings the 2026 total to three separate recall events across a wide portion of its fleet.
Lucid is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which remains the company’s largest financial backer.
The NHTSA filing covers the Air sedan, Lucid’s flagship model and the primary vehicle in its current lineup.
As of the NHTSA’s announcement, 20,719 of the 27,185 affected vehicles have already received the over-the-air software update Lucid deployed to address the overheating issue.
