Metaplanet, Japan’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder, is making its first major move into US capital markets. The Tokyo-listed company announced plans to invest 2,100 Bitcoin and $2.5 million in cash to take a controlling stake in Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise.
Since April, a small team inside Metaplanet has been working on something we could not talk about. Today it is public.

Once the deal closes, Super League will be renamed Superplanet and trade under the ticker SUPA. It will serve as Metaplanet’s dedicated US Bitcoin treasury platform.
Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich described the structure as creating “two engines” for Bitcoin accumulation. Metaplanet will continue raising capital in Japan while Superplanet taps US markets, particularly through perpetual preferred shares.
The 2,100 BTC being contributed represents just under 5% of Metaplanet’s total holdings of 43,000 BTC. At current prices, that Bitcoin is worth approximately $135 million. No new Bitcoin is being purchased for this transaction.
How the Deal Is Structured
Metaplanet is expected to own roughly 95.7% of Superplanet’s common stock, priced at $3 per share. The company will also hold preferred stock and warrants, and will designate five of nine board directors.
Metaplanet’s shares in the new entity will be locked for five years. The existing Super League gaming, content and advertising business will remain operating under the new structure.
Capital raised by either company could be used to support the broader Bitcoin treasury strategy. Superplanet would also be able to pursue US-based acquisitions that may not be available to the Japanese parent.
The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending approval from Super League shareholders.
Market Reaction
Super League shares jumped more than 85% to $5.66 on the day of the announcement. Trading volume hit roughly 37.3 million shares, compared to around 393,000 shares the day before, nearly a 95-fold increase.
Metaplanet stock also rose, closing 5.07% higher at 228 JPY. Intraday trading ranged between 224 and 238 JPY.
Metaplanet currently ranks as the third-largest corporate Bitcoin holder globally. It trails Twenty One Capital by roughly 500 BTC. Twenty One Capital is backed by Tether, Bitfinex and SoftBank.
Michael Saylor’s Strategy remains the largest corporate Bitcoin holder with more than 840,000 BTC. Strategy has sold some Bitcoin in recent months to fund dividends and share repurchases.
Metaplanet last added to its Bitcoin holdings in early July. The company reported revenue growth of 133.7% and operating profit growth of 136.3% year-over-year in the first half of 2026.
The deal closing remains subject to customary conditions including shareholder approval.
