Musk made the statement in response to entertainment visuals released for the Cybercab. The visuals showed the cabin stocked with cinema, music, and gaming features built into its large front screen.
The key difference here is that this is not about Tesla’s own game library. Instead, riders would bring their own Sony or PlayStation console and connect it to the screen, just like plugging into a living room TV.
How This Differs From Tesla’s Past Gaming Features
Tesla has offered in-car gaming since 2019, when it brought arcade-style games to vehicles parked at charging stations. The updated 2021 Model S and Model X included dedicated graphics hardware with around 10 teraflops of power, close to the PlayStation 5 at the time.
The FUTURE of driving is here
Tesla's new Cybercab has no steering wheel, no pedals, and no driver.
The entire front of the car becomes a 22-inch screen, and riders can play games with a controller, stream movies and music, with Starlink connectivity coming soon.

In 2022, Tesla added Steam support to new Model S and Model X vehicles. However, by 2024, Steam was removed from new cars after Tesla changed its entertainment hardware.
Musk previously said in 2021 that he had no interest in making a console to compete with Xbox or PlayStation, calling that approach redundant. The current move follows that logic by letting existing consoles do the heavy lifting.
What the Cybercab Actually Offers
The Cybercab has no steering wheel and no pedals. It is a fully autonomous vehicle already operating in Tesla’s Austin service area with paying passengers and no human driver.
The cabin is designed as a mobile entertainment space. Pre-installed apps cover movies, music, and games. Starlink V5 hardware is planned to deliver reliable internet inside the vehicle.
Musk confirmed the hardware interface will allow a console to be physically plugged in, meaning video, audio, and controller input would all work through the car’s screen.
This repositions the Cybercab screen from a driver interface to a passenger entertainment display. When there is no driver, cabin time becomes free time, making a full gaming setup more practical.
Regulatory approval still plays a role. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration previously investigated Tesla over in-car gaming distractions, and Tesla had to disable gaming while driving at one point. Full console use would be tied to local rules around autonomous vehicle operation.
For game publishers Sony and Microsoft, this creates a new display terminal without requiring any new hardware investment on their part. Players keep their existing game libraries and save files.
Tesla’s role in this setup is providing the screen, the power supply, and the connection point. Content and game licenses stay with the console makers.
The Cybercab is currently live in Austin. No wider launch date for the console feature has been confirmed.
