- No official launch date has been set, and the feature’s creator Nikita Bier has since left his product chief role
X is moving closer to turning its social platform into a crypto trading terminal, with plans to add buy and sell buttons directly inside users’ timelines.
🚨BREAKING: X to enable trade buttons to BUY and SELL crypto directly from the timeline.
Nikita Bier confirms X will soon add native crypto trading buttons, potentially turning every post into a direct gateway to on-platform crypto trading.

The feature was revealed by Nikita Bier, the former head of product at X, who announced on August 25 that a buy button is coming. Bier said he built the Cashtags feature from scratch and that a trading button was always the next step.
Cashtags already allows users to view live price charts for tokens like Solana and Ethereum directly inside posts. The feature launched in April, initially for iPhone users in the US and Canada only.
Despite that limited rollout, Cashtags is estimated to have generated around $1 billion in trading volume within just 48 hours. X later expanded the feature in May to include real-time stock charts as well.
How the Buy Button Would Work
Right now, if a user spots a token mentioned on X, they have to open a separate wallet or exchange app to buy it. The new button would remove that step entirely.
Users would be able to place an order without leaving the post they were reading. Bier described it as a one-tap process from discovery to purchase.
X also already has a lesser-known tool live on the platform. Pasting a token’s contract address into a post pulls up information about that asset automatically.
Bier confirmed that X will not execute trades itself. Instead, the platform will link to trading partners to complete transactions.
Safety Features and Scam Protection
Contract address verification is a key part of the planned feature. Scam tokens often copy the names and branding of real projects, making it easy for traders to buy the wrong one.
By letting users paste a contract address and pull up verified information instantly, X is trying to reduce that risk. This matters even more once a one-tap buy button exists, since faster trading can also mean faster mistakes.
Bier was clear that X’s features did not cause the current crypto rally. He pointed to US Treasury bond purchases and a weakening dollar as the real drivers.
Bitcoin was trading around $80,643 at the time of his comments, up 4.25% on the day and 24.5% over the past month.
Bier has since stepped down from his product chief role and now serves only as an advisor. That means the buy button’s launch will be handled by whoever takes over from him.
Neither Bier nor X has announced a launch date for the feature. Cashtags also still covers only limited markets, which may need to expand before the trading button can roll out more widely.
